\nDeciding what to do. And more importantly, what not to do.<\/p>\n
Over the past few years, I\u2019ve been seeing it more and more
\nleaders trying to sharpen, narrow, and refine.<\/p>\n
And recently, with all the talk around OpenAI and the Sora story,
\nthe word \u201cfocus\u201d is back in the spotlight.<\/p>\n
Whether it\u2019s accurate or not, that\u2019s not the point.<\/p>\n
What is interesting
\nis how quickly we all jump to the same conclusion:<\/p>\n
we need focus.<\/p>\n
But after nearly 30 years in this field,
\nI can say something different.<\/p>\n
Brands don\u2019t fail because they lack focus.
\nThey fail because their focus is in the wrong place.<\/p>\n
Many companies translate focus into uniformity.<\/p>\n
One message
\nOne tone
\nOne approach<\/p>\n
For everyone.<\/p>\n
It looks right.
\nIt feels consistent.<\/p>\n
But in reality, it simply doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n
Because reality isn\u2019t uniform.
\nAnd neither is your audience.<\/p>\n
Real focus in branding
\nis not found in the message.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s found in identity.<\/p>\n
In what stays stable
\neven when everything around it changes.<\/p>\n
To make this work in practice,
\nI keep coming back to three simple rules.<\/p>\n
Rule one<\/strong> Messages change depending on context. But identity shouldn\u2019t change with every new campaign.<\/p>\n When a brand is built around a single message, When identity is clear, Rule two<\/strong> Same brand. Not because it\u2019s confused, The ability to stay who you are, Rule three<\/strong> Not every trend What you say no to I see companies trying to \u201cbe focused\u201d And on the other side, The trunk stays stable. Where is your brand today<\/p>\n Trying to say the same thing to everyone
\nFocus on identity, not on the message.<\/p>\n
\nThat\u2019s natural.<\/p>\n
\nit breaks when reality shifts.<\/p>\n
\nyou can move without losing yourself.<\/p>\n
\nOne brand should not speak the same way to everyone.<\/p>\n
\nDifferent language for each audience.<\/p>\n
\nbut because it understands.<\/p>\n
\nwhile sounding different that\u2019s the core.<\/p>\n
\nReal focus also means choosing what not to do.<\/p>\n
\nNot every platform
\nNot every opportunity<\/p>\n
\nis what sharpens your direction.<\/p>\n
\nand in doing so, they limit themselves.<\/p>\n
\ncompanies that understand the difference
\nand manage to stay precise, even as they move.<\/p>\n
\nThe branches evolve.<\/p>\n
